TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The Israeli soccer tournament between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv was canceled after disruptions before the start led police to determine it was unsafe to continue.

The problems arise inside and outside Bloomfield Stadium, which is shared by other clubs, ahead of Israel’s Premier League departure.

The Jerusalem Post’s English website says the party “was canceled after police determined that conditions in the stadium would not be guaranteed to continue,” with “extensive use of pyrotechnics by fans, including artificial fires and humo grenades.”

“According to the Israel Police, three officials and five aficionados are the result of hereditary incidents.”

An incident occurred days after the Birmingham City Security Group controversially ruled that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans should be banned from attending the Europa League party on November 26 at Aston Villa over security concerns. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, criticized the decision.
