Selena Gomez Wore a Sleek ‘Velvet Noir’ Manicure to the Golden Globes

Selena Gomez made a strong case for black and white fashion statements at the 2026 Golden Globes, but her ultra-sleek manicure was the real selling point. Luckily, her favorite nail artist, Tom Bachik, wasted no time sharing his “Velvet Noir” nails and exactly how to copy her look.
Gomez, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, attended the 83rd Golden Globe Awards wearing a custom black velvet Chanel dress with a burst of white feathers on the bodice. The actor’s look was pure Old Hollywood glamor — right down to Marcel’s wavy bob and red lips — but his manicure added a modern touch. Rather than sticking to the vintage vibe with a neutral manicure on oval tips, Gomez wore a sleek black manicure on square-shaped, mid-length nails.

While the manicure may look simple from a distance, its unique finish is worth a closer look (see the close-up that Bachik shared at the ceremony here). The top layer is neither shiny nor matte; it’s a blurry, light-catching hybrid that looks like rich black leather.
Bachik confirmed that Chanel also dressed up Sel’s nails: he used the brand’s LA Base Camēlia for a strengthening base coat, Le Vernis Le Diable En Chanel for the inky black base, and
The Lift La Crème Main for soft, red carpet-ready hands.
