Sydney Sweeney shared some of the secrets behind his dramatic transformation for his role as a legendary boxer Christy Martin in the new film “Christy”.
Friday, during a question-and-more session after the premiere of the film at the International Film Film Film Festival (TIFF), the 27-year-old actress, who won more than 30 pounds to play Martin, detailed how her preparations included intense physical training and a heavy diet on Chick-Fil-A and Milkshakes.
“I trained for two or three months before [filming]. I had a boxing coach, “she said in a shared video on social networks.” I had weight trainers, I had nutritionists. I trained three times a day every day. And then while I was shooting, I trained too. “”
“And there was a lot of chick-fil-a,” added director David Michôd.

“Lots of Chick-Fil-A, a lot,” said Sweeney. “Lots of Smucker, a lot of milkshakes, a lot of protein shakes.”
“But it was incredible to be able to completely embody such a powerful woman,” she added. “I felt even stronger. It was really inspiring.”
“Christy” tells the story of Martin, nicknamed the “daughter of the coal minor” and his ascent of the small town of Virginia-Western to become one of the most recognizable females of the 1990s.
The film also explores Martin’s troubled relationship with his trainer and boxing husband, Jim Martin (Ben Foster). Their marriage involved co -depence, drug addiction, financial scandal and physical and psychological violence. The story of Martin is also a survival when she got out of little with her life after Jim tried to assassinate her in 2010.

Sweeney previously shared that she had spent time with Martin, who visited her on the set and encouraged him during the combat scenes.
Friday, when he was standing next to Martin on stage at the Princess of Wales Theater, Sweeney tore when she thought about the game of the former champion.
“Thank you for helping us to disseminate the story and the conscience of Christy, because as you can say, she is such a special and incredible human being,” said Sweeney, attracting cheers and applause of the festival crowd. “His story deserves to be told.”
“You are so inspiring, so being able to have it by my side during this process was a dream,” the star of “Euphoria” told Martin when she became emotional. “But then also scary too, because you said to yourself:” Oh my God, we do this in front of her “and I was not quite sure.”
“I mean, she is the best boxer around the world, and I have to make hooks and successes, and I say to myself:” I hope I do well “,” she added. “It was a dream come true as an actor, as a person.”

When Martin spoke in Q&R, she congratulated Sweeney for capturing both sides of his personality.
“Christy the boxer was only the character, very explosive and very selfish, but it is not who I am,” said Martin, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “I am actually very shy and reserved.”

“I have these two different parts of my personality, which, I think, is the reason why Sydney Sweeney does this great job,” she continued. “She must have been that completely different person that none of you expected. She was not the beautiful and sexy Sydney. She was the hard and robust Christy in this film.”
After his ex-husband’s attempt on his life, Martin became a motivation lecturer and founded Christy’s champions for non-profit, who supports survivors of domestic violence.

Martin told the crowd that she hoped that his story would inspire others and that the film would give them confidence to continue their dreams.
“I have concluded an agreement with God of the hospital: if you allow me to live, I would help as many people as possible,” said Martin about his recovery after the attack. “I hope this film will do. If the daughter of a coal minor from a city of 500 people from southern Virginia-Western can do so, anyone can.”
