Cillian Murphy, Billie Eilish Among The Stars In Cringey Pro-Palestine Video
Cillian Murphy and Billie Eilish were among the big names that have come together to create an awkward pro-Palestine video promoting the “Together for Palestine” profit concert.
Nothing says “solidarity” as a painfully celebrity staged PSA – and Joaquin Phoenix, Javier Bardem, Annie Mac, Peter Gabriel and some of their famous friends have just proven. The stars published a video before the concert “Together for Palestine” on September 17, but the clip which was intended to inspire support let the viewers wiggle in the used embarrassment. With too dramatic looks, slow breaks and scripted lines delivered as a high school theater, the video tried to be powerful but landed squarely in grumpy territory.
Celebrities attempting activism have struck serious tones, demanding a ceasefire from Gaza while urging fans to “solidarize”, but delivery was more like a forced PSA than a call for sincere action. Critics accused the group of having used a humanitarian crisis as a self-importance stage, stressing that they came to the party far too late.
Social media users have called stars for lending their voices to the pro-Palestine organization for two years in the Gaza crisis.
Instead of being sincere, the campaign felt forced and strangely scripted, ultimately reminding viewers that all global problems do not need a voice of celebrities attached to it.
The backlash was rapid, viewers mocking the video for his rigid messaging and calling for another example of Hollywood stars overestimating their influence.
