New Amazon Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft are coming Dec. 10 — everything to know about Amazon’s latest color e-reader

We finally have a date for the launch of the new Amazon Kindle Scribe and Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. First announced at Amazon’s Devices and Services event on September 30, 2025, no purchase date was provided for the new Amazon e-readers. On December 4, Amazon officially announced that the new Amazon Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft would be available for purchase on Wednesday, December 10.
At the Amazon Devices and Services event, Mashable Technical Editor Timothy Beck Werth got hands-on with the new Colorsoft Scribe. The new devices are ultra-thin and lightweight, measuring just 5.4 millimeters in width and weighing just 400 grams. Additionally, Amazon has developed a new chip for these e-readers, promising to be 40% faster. Each device features an 11-inch screen with textured molded glass, making it feel like writing on paper with the included premium pen. The new Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB versions.

The Scribe Colorsoft will finally feature a color screen. This means you can now color-code your notes and annotations. Additionally, both devices will benefit from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive integration.
Neither device is available for pre-order, so if you want to purchase you’ll have to wait until December 10. But be prepared to cough up some serious dough. The Kindle Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft are Amazon’s most expensive e-readers. The new Amazon Kindle Scribe starts at $499.99, while the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft starts at $629.99.
