Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass Breaks Silence After Making Vile Comment About Trump

Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass has expressed deep regret after joking about attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump during a 2024 concert.
He admitted to causing a “shit storm” after making an inappropriate comment on stage shortly after a bullet grazed Trump and left him bloody.
On July 14, 2024, Tenacious D, the comedy rock band Gass co-founded with Jack Black, performed at the ICC Sydney Theatre. It was also Gass’ birthday.
Gass said he heard the news of the assassination attempt, but admitted the reality of the situation was not understood, according to an interview with Rolling Stone published Wednesday.
A cake was brought on stage during the concert and when asked to make a wish, Gass replied: “Don’t miss Trump next time!” »
“It was a very low moment for me,” Gass admitted.
“Since then, I have felt very bad,” he added later.
Gass got a few laughs that night, but his comment circulated quickly and gained traction online. He quickly realizes the depth of his mistake. He told the publication that the outrage had raised concerns about his safety.
Gas was far removed from the assassination attempt and was performing on a stage in Sydney, Australia.
“I didn’t feel like I was in touch with it. If I had been there, I think I would have understood more the seriousness of an assassination attempt,” he told the outlet.
“I’m here on the other side of the world. I’m in a different hemisphere, I’m in a different continent. And I naively forget about the cameras and stuff,” he said.
“I just decided to joke about what happened. And it was terrible. It was a terrible judgment, obviously. Since then, I have felt very bad, because it is such a responsibility not to make such mistakes,” he said.

Gass apologized on Instagram and deleted it a few days later.
“I was naive, of course – people will understand that,” he said of his joke. “But I just felt like it was kind of a private moment. I thought I was safe in the bubble. And it was so quick.”
Reflecting on the mistake, he told the outlet: “Five one-syllable words that brought down the empire. »

Gass highlighted the impact of this singular moment and the widespread reaction that followed.
“I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s one of those things, once you figured it out, it got worse and worse.”
“It was hard to take responsibility for it, but it was my shit. When you’re in it, it’s hard to even think clearly. It’s just this thing that floods you and comes at you,” he told Rolling Stone.
“I’m human, I made a mistake. I was joking. But timing is everything. If ever there was a ‘too soon,’ this is it,” he said.
