Tennessee football expert predicts winner of Georgia-Tennessee
The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers will meet on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m. in Knoxville. "College GameDay" will be in town for the contest. The Georgia-Tennessee game is an early game that could end up as a season-defining game for both teams.
Will Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton and the UGA offense be able to perform well on the road in a hostile environment? We'll find out on Saturday, but the Tennessee game serves as the first true test for Georgia this year. The Bulldogs have played two non-Power Four opponents this season and are 2-0, but they have not had to go on the road or play an SEC foe.
For Tennessee, the Georgia game is the 2-0 Volunteers' first SEC game of the season and an opportunity for Tennessee to snap an eight game losing streak to Georgia. Volunteers quarterback Joey Aguilar will be making his first career SEC start and is hoping to show that he can take his game to another level against top competition.
Dan Harralson of Vols Wire breaks down the Georgia-Tennessee game from a Tennessee prospective ahead of Saturday's game in this edition of Behind Enemy Lines.
How do Vol fans and media feel entering the Georgia-Tennessee game?
Saturday is probably the best chance Tennessee has in defeating Georgia since winning in Athens during the 2016 season. Tennessee is cautiously optimistic, but also realize the task at hand.
How do you evaluate Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar, who replaced Nico Iamaleava?
Aguilar is more of a college-type quarterback and one who can move around to allow for Tennessee to play tempo. He entered the 2025 season as the FBS active career leader in total offense per game (288.5, minimum 2,500 yards) and ranked second in passing yards per contest (270.4, minimum 5,000 yards). Aguilar is Josh Heupel's most-mobile quarterback since Hendon Hooker in 2022.
Georgia has won eight straight games against Tennessee. What can Tennessee do to stop that streak?
Offensively, the Vols need to play with tempo and establish a run game. If Tennessee is unable to establish a run game against Georgia's front seven, the Vols may have a difficult time passing on early downs to keep the Bulldogs on their heels.
Defensively, if the Vols allow Georgia to move the ball down the field through the air with their receiving core, Tennessee will need to have a bend but not break approach and play well in the red zone.
What is Tennessee's biggest weakness?
Tennessee's depth on defense. The Vols' interior defensive line and defensive backfield have dealt with injuries during the offseason and through two weeks in the 2025 campaign.
What Georgia player are you most concerned about?
In general, Georgia's defensive line and on the edge. If the Bulldogs can get in Tennessee's backfield and make Aguilar move around with containment, it could make for a difficult time for the Vols to move the ball.
What three permanent opponents do you want Tennessee to play with the SEC expanding to nine conference games?
I think it is important for Tennessee and Georgia to play due to proximity and tradition. The Vols will most likely retain Alabama and Vanderbilt, but could also have South Carolina become a third permanent opponent with the Tennessee-Kentucky series potentially coming to an end annually.
Dan Harralson's prediction
Harralson thinks that Tennessee will cover the 3 and 1/2-point spread (Georgia is the favorite) and win outright. He predicts that the under will hit as well.
Prediction: Tennessee 26, Georgia 20
