Autumn is when coffee tastes better. Not because of the weather, that’s stupid, it’s good all year round. Coffee tastes best in the fall because that’s when all the espresso machines, coffee machines, and coffee grinders offer their best deals. Which means it’s when you upgrade your homemade bean game. I usually advise people to wait to buy espresso machines until Prime Day in the summer, or now during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales weekend.

Here are the best deals you’ll find during the fall bean bonanza, on the best espresso machines, drip coffee makers, and coffee grinders that WIRED has tested, in some cases for 7 years or more.

Updated November 29: We’ve added more deals on Ninja, De’Longhi, Terra Kaffe, Fellow and Oxo machines.

The Breville Barista Express is $250 off

Breville Barista Express is the espresso world’s all-time blockbuster, long a WIRED Top Pick and long the best-selling machine of its kind on Amazon. The reasons are simple. It strikes the right balance between taste, ease and affordability, and never more so than at major sales events. This is still the one I recommend as the best device for most people, especially when starting out in the world of espresso. If you’re looking for a machine with a grinder included, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better or more reliable semi-automatic machine than this Breville. This thing is moving along happily.

De’Longhi

La Specialista Opera

This is my favorite De’Longhi semi-automatic espresso machine that I’ve tested, at a deep discount, with a quick cold brew option nicer than most.

Ninja’s best espresso machine is $150 off

I was as surprised as anyone when Ninja got into the espresso machine game. It’s a tough world, full of Italians. I was even more surprised when the Ninja Luxe Cafe Premier performed as well as it did out of the box when it was introduced last year, with a terrific milk frother and a bean assist feature that’s useful for dialing in your grind settings on the built-in conical burr grinder without being intrusive. This year’s Luxe Cafe Pro is the refinement of the Premier machine, with an automatic tamper and essential hot water spout. Of course, “drip coffee” isn’t a great shake, and fast cold brew isn’t as good as slow brew. But it’s a great espresso machine for beginners, and the cold foam is best in class. And with this discount, it’s only $100 more than the Luxe Cafe Premier ($499).

Ninja

Luxe Café Premier Series Espresso Machine

The OG Ninja still shines and costs $499 – it’s an espresso machine I often recommend to beginners.

Terra Cafe

Half

This new Terra Kaffe Demi is a fun, easy (yet customizable), fully automatic shot machine. It’s at a very attractive price. But you will need a frother.

This coffee maker lasts a very long time

Master Mocca

KBGV Select coffee maker

The Moccamaster KBGV filter coffee machine will last. This will last for years. It will possibly last for decades, according to online accounts. It lives forever, in seemingly every Scandinavian home – stubbornly analog, precision engineered, repairable and replaceable. Even after its 5-year warranty, you can repair it for around $60 at Moccamaster’s North American workshop outside of Portland, Oregon. You don’t even need a deal for it to be a deal. But there is quite a deal. That’s over $100 off. It’s pretty good.

Report

Six Series 2 coffee makers

This is the batch coffee maker that I recommend to those who appreciate full extraction and body, with a thermal carafe to boot: Lord, it’s good coffee.

Companion

Aiden Precision Coffee Maker

This is the best deal we’ve seen, on WIRED’s favorite sophisticated drip and pour-over coffee machine. It will change your coffee feeling.

The De’Longhi Rivelia is on its best sale ever

The De’Longhi Rivelia is both the Italian coffee giant’s new flagship superautomatic machine and the machine that sold me on the idea of superautomatic machines in general. What’s so “great” about it? It will prepare virtually any variety of frothy drink with virtually no involvement on your part. Espresso, Americano, and multiple beverage varieties in a full coffee cup simply require the press of a button, with a helpful bean assist feature that will call you for each bean. Milk froth is ridiculously simple and can be customized based on its density. Almost uniquely among these devices, you can swap between two grain hoppers. That means coffee in the morning and decaf in the afternoon.

WIRED’s Hottest Coffee Grinder Is $40 Off

The Baratza Encore ESP is the coffee grinder I recommend to anyone wondering if they need a good coffee grinder. They totally do. And this one is the most versatile and best-performing one I’ve seen at its price, with an extremely clever fine adjustment at the espresso level of the scale, as well as wider settings so you can also use this device for excellent drip, French press, and cold brew. Its unwavering robustness and analog character mean it’s not as pretty as a Fellow Opus (also a good seller and a great, very quiet grinder!) But this Baratza will last through the years without complaint.

Companion

Opus conical burr grinder

The Opus combines with the ESP as a versatile grinder: less fine adjustment for espresso, but wonderfully quiet and aesthetic.

Oxo

Conical Burr Grinder

This is the least expensive burr grinder that still produces great coffee. The price is even lower right now.
