Woman Provides the Final Word in the ‘Merry Christmas’ Versus ‘Happy Holidays’ Debate – RedState

You know, I admit that for many years after I became a conservative (this was around the mid-1990s), you would hear me say “Happy Holidays” or “Christmas Greetings” more than “Merry Christmas” at that time of year.
It wasn’t because I wasn’t a believer – I was and still am. It’s just that I was still learning my way in the world and finding my voice, and at that time I didn’t want to risk causing a ridiculous argument or a glare from the politically correct types. Additionally, my faith was not as strong at the time as I grew over the years.
Even with the Christmas cards I sent, I would receive ones that had very predefined messages about the “holiday season”, and I would usually only write a “Merry Christmas” greeting message inside the cards that would be addressed to those I knew to be believers.

As the years passed, however, my relationship with Christ grew stronger, and the arguments that removing His name from so many things contributed greatly to the decline of society began to resonate more and more with me. I didn’t want to contribute to that.
Additionally, at some point I realized that being too careful in how I pronounced my words so as not to offend someone with a different belief system was not the way I wanted to live my life, especially considering that there is nothing offensive about saying “Merry Christmas” unless you are a perpetually wrong individual.
Additionally, I had Jewish and non-believing friends who didn’t hesitate to say “Merry Christmas” to people. If they said it, why on earth, as a woman of faith, didn’t I say it too and with conviction?
So for about two decades, “Merry Christmas” has been my default Christmas message when interacting with anyone, whether in person, via email, text, phone, mail, etc. And I really like it that the vast majority of the time, when I say it, people say it back. Sometimes it’s even the other person who says it first.
By the way, I’m also not opposed to adding “happy holidays” has a Merry Christmas message, as seen here, for example:

Tonight on I came across an undated video of a woman who probably had one of the most – if not THE the most definitive statements on the whole “Happy Holidays” vs. “Merry Christmas” debate I’ve ever seen.
In it, she explained how she didn’t care if people were offended by “Merry Christmas”, and that she would always say it. She also noted that she doesn’t get upset when she hears someone else say “happy holidays,” but said her response in turn would be “Merry Christmas” because Jesus was the reason for this time and people need to remember that.
It was just great, actually, that’s how it is type of position we need to see more of from believers, in my opinion:
“I don’t care, I don’t care, I don’t care. They say Happy Holidays, I say Merry Christmas.”
“I’m going to be very intentional about saying Merry Christmas.”
“Jesus is the reason for the season.”
