Several demonstrators arrested outside Netanyahu’s hotel ahead of UN speech | New York

On Friday, several demonstrators were arrested in the early hours of the hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stayed in New York before his speech on Friday morning at the United Nations General Assembly.
About two dozen people protested in a small but noisy gather near the Netanyahu hotel in the Lenox Hill district on the east side of Manhattan, not far from the United Nations Building.
The demonstration after midnight seemed to disrupt the sleep of the leader of the Middle East as demonstrators with Palestinian flags and signs saying “genocide” and other statements hit the battery, sung and shouted “Baby Killer”, “Palestine Libre” and “fucks Israel” in the street, according to images published on social media.
The police ordered and gathered them on the sidewalk and made several arrests, although overall, the New York police service seemed to remain in place and the demonstration was not violent.
The demonstration came while Netanyahu’s address was to be provocative on the last military offensive of Israel in Gaza and occurs as several high -level countries last week has officially recognized Palestine as an independent state.
The largely symbolic but significant change in international policy is designed to exercise new pressure on Israel to end the war in Gaza and return to the negotiation table. At least 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza were killed and 167,000 injured by Israel’s attacks on the region following the deadly attack against southern Israel led by Hamas, which governed the Gaza Strip, on October 7, 2023, the group of Islamist activists still holding hostages struck by the attack.
The United Kingdom recognized Palestine earlier this week with an announcement by the Prime Minister of the country, Keir Starmer.
“The hope of a solution to two states is fading but we cannot let this light go out … today, to revive the hope of peace and a solution to two states, I clearly declare, as Prime Minister of this great country, that the United Kingdom officially recognizes the state of Palestine,” he said.
Netanyahu had quickly denounced the announcement of the United Kingdom, the absurd appellant and “award for terrorism”.
Canada, Australia, France and Portugal have also very recently made similar public recognition of a Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump pleaded against the annexation by Israel of the West Bank by Israel, although the United States should fully use his veto of the Security Council against the recognition of Palestine during any official voting of the United Nations.
