Texas Rep. Troy Nehls Announces He’s Retiring From Congress – RedState

Republican Rep. Troy Nehls (TX-11) just shared news about his future in the U.S. House of Representatives, announcing that he will retire once the current Congress ends.
The Lone Star state lawmaker, who took office in 2021, took to his X account, addressing the statement to his supporters and constituents Saturday afternoon:
After over 30 years in law enforcement serving and protecting my community as a Police Officer, Police Officer, Fort Bend County Sheriff, Army Veteran, and six years representing this district in Congress, I have made the decision, after conversations with my beautiful wife…

The statement continues:
…I have made the decision, after conversations with my beautiful wife and daughters over the Thanksgiving holiday, to focus on my family and return home after this Congress.
Before making this decision, I personally called President Trump to tell him about my plans. President Trump has always been a strong ally to our district and a true friend, and I wanted him to hear that from me first.
Serving this country in the military, serving our community in law enforcement, and serving this district in Congress has been the honor of my life. Thank you for your trust, friendship and prayers.
As RedState previously wrote, the U.S. Supreme Court announced some good news in the form of a stay of a lower court ruling on Texas’ redistricting plan just over a week ago. Of course, we will keep you all informed of any updates on these developments.

In July, Rep. Nehls co-sponsored a bill (HR 4711), the REMOVE Act, which would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 USC 1229(d)) to ensure a timely timeline for removal proceedings for illegal aliens. He shared a clip of himself speaking about the bill this week:
The Trump administration is doing everything it can to ensure bad men are removed from America’s streets.
My REMOVE Act gives President Trump the ability to quickly deport illegal aliens by expediting the legal process – injecting common sense into the immigration system. pic.twitter.com/GRGiCinb7F

What does this House resignation mean for the GOP’s efforts to retain the majority in the lower house and the 22nd District seat?
According to Ballotpedia data, Nehls ran unopposed in 2024, although he scored convincing victories not only against GOP opponents in almost every previous primary, but also against Democratic opponents in the general election.
In 2024, for example, Rep. Nehls defeated Democrat Marquette Greene-Scott, 62.1% to 37.9%; during the 2022 primary, he won handily over Gregory Thorne, 87.2% to 12.8%.
And in that year’s general election, the Republican incumbent defeated Democrat Jamie Jordan, 62.2 percent to 35.5 percent.
In other words, this is a deep red seat that Republicans should hold on to in the future. Overall, this is good news for our side of the aisle.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to RedState for further updates, as needed.
