The 6 Best UI Customizations for Chromebook

The default Chromebook interface is dull and is not optimized for efficiency. With a few quick adjustments, however, you can personalize it to reflect your style and make navigation more fluid. Here are some user interface changes that I use that improve my experience as a chromebook – and I recommend that you try them too.
6
Move / automatically put the tray
Just like the Windows taskbar which contains pinned applications, open windows and a quick toolbar, chromeos has the shelf, which is at the bottom of the default screen. If you want to save vertical space, you can move the shelf to the left or right side. Simply click on it, select “shelf position” and choose your favorite location.
Chromeos also offers a practical automatic frostality. When activated, the shelf remains hidden in full screen mode and only appears when you move your cursor to its edge, where it is located – an easy way to maximize the screen space. To use this feature, right -click the shelf and select “Autohide Shelf”.
5
Pin / Upin applications on the shelf
Personalization of the most practical user interface is probably to pin your most frequently used applications on the shelf. With them always visible, you will not need to dig through the launcher each time. On the other hand, if the tray appears cluttered with too many applications, you can easily denigrate the extras to unclutter the platform and access your applications more quickly.
To pin an application frequently used on the shelf, click on the circle icon in the lower left corner to open the launcher. Find the application from the list of displayed applications (or use the search bar to find it), then right -click its icon and choose “Pin à l’Écagère”.
To delete an application from the shelf, simply right -click on the application icon on the shelf and select “Unpin”. Likewise, you can keep multimedia player commands or files and folders frequently used on the shelf for easy access.
4
Switch between light and dark themes
By default, Chromeos uses a light theme, which seems clean and bright during the day but can stretch your eyes in low -light environments. To make your experience more comfortable, you can continue to use the light theme in well -lit settings for a clean look, but go to the dark theme at night to reduce eye fatigue and even save a certain battery.
The good news is that Chromeos offers an option to automatically switch between clear and dark themes depending on the time of day, so you don’t need to continue to adjust it yourself. To activate it, click on the clock icon in the lower right corner and open the “settings”. Then go to “Wallpaper and style”, click “Define your wallpaper and style” and select the “Auto” option.
3
Change the size and color of the mouse cursor
The mouse cursor is one of the most visible elements on your screen, so personalization is an important part of the customization of your user interface. You can do it in two main ways: first, by increasing its size to make it easier to spot, especially useful if you have vision difficulties – and secondly, by changing its color to stand out from different backgrounds or better correspond to your style.
To adjust the size of the cursor, click on the clock icon in the lower right corner, then the gear icon to open the parameters. From there, access accessibility> Cursor and touchpad. Use the cursor to increase (or decrease) the size of the cursor. Likewise, open the “cursor color” drop -down list to choose a new color instead of the default value.
If the cursor size cursor does not appear or is grayed out, activate the “Grand Mouse Cursor show” to unlock the adjustment.
2
Adjust the display zoom
If your Chromebook has a smaller screen or if you have trouble with the low view, you can adjust the display zoom and text size to improve readability. The zoom display modifies the scale of everything – applications, text, windows and menus, which makes the whole interface easier to see.
To adjust Display the zoom, click on the clock in the lower right corner, open the settings by clicking on the gear icon and access the device> Display. Use the “display and text size” slider to zoom or out if necessary.
If you spend long hours on your Chromebook or manage a lot of text, this simple adjustment can really improve readability, reduce eye fatigue and help you stay focused.
1
Define the wallpaper to update daily
One of the easiest ways to keep the desk of your fresh chromebook is to change the wallpaper daily. Instead of changing it manually, chromeos can run backgrounds for you from the organized image collections of Google. All you have to do is choose your favorite collection, and Chromeos will take care of the rest.
To make your Chromebook greet you with a new wallpaper every day, activate the daily refreshment function. Right -click on the desktop, select “Set the wallpaper and style”, browse the available collections, choose your favorite and activate “Change daily”. Chromeos will then automatically run the wallpapers in this collection.
The application of these adjustments not only makes my Chromebook more personal, but also makes it more efficient and comfortable to use. If you use your device with its default settings, consider these adjustments – you might be surprised to see how much they improve the appearance and your workflow. If you are never satisfied with a change, you can easily turn it over.
