An earthquake rocked things in the New York metropolitan region on Saturday evening.

An earthquake with a preliminary scale of 3.0 hit Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, at 10:18 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey, or USGS.

There has been no reports of injuries or structural damage, Jonathan Tytell, a geophysicist at the USGS, told Jonathan.

The earthquake has a preliminary depth of 10 kilometers, which is superficial compared to others who have occurred on earth, he said.

No major impact was reported shortly after the earthquake, said New York emergency management. The agency has indicated that tremors may have been felt in certain parts of the city.

New Yorkers should be prepared for replicas that may occur for minutes, hours or even days after the initial event, said a position on the agency’s X account. The position also recommended that those who feel shaking check the dangers such as the items that have moved, the fall in debris or the cracks.

The Empire State Building made sure to let the New Yorkers know that he survived Shake, publishing on X: “I’m fine.”

Tytell said the earthquake was “much less deadly” than the 8.8-scale earthquake in Russia, which caused tsunami warnings to the United States

Those in the Saturday earthquake district can expect replicas of magnitude 1.0, said Tytell, but that it is a precursor of something larger is unlikely.

He also said that he did not think it was a replica of the earthquake of 4.8 coarse in the region which had taken place in April 2024.
