The Global Story – The new race to the Moon

Available for over a year
More than 50 years after the last Apollo mission, NASA is preparing to send astronauts back to the Moon. Artemis II will take its crew further from Earth than any human has traveled in decades – a crucial step toward another landing on the lunar surface. At the same time, China has quietly advanced its own plans for a crewed moon landing. Some experts say this marks the start of a new space race – not just for prestige, but also to establish a long-term presence on the Moon, exploit its resources and use it as a springboard to Mars. We speak to BBC science editor Rebecca Morelle.
