Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) plans to set up a new 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh with an investment of 66.75 billion rupees ($742.17 million).

The Tata Power subsidiary will develop the project in Nellore.

The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) of Andhra Pradesh, headed by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, has approved the project.

The ingot and wafer facility aims to strengthen India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports of critical solar and semiconductor components.

The facility will be located in the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, where the Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 200 acres, including 120 acres for the initial phase and 80 acres for future expansion.

This development is expected to create approximately 1,000 direct jobs, as well as significant indirect employment during construction and related activities.

TPREL will also develop a 200 MW captive green power plant to provide renewable energy for the facility’s operations.

The initiative represents TPREL’s first manufacturing venture in Andhra Pradesh, aligning with its broader renewable energy expansion in the region.

In a related development, TP Solar, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL, reported production of 2.8 GW of domestic content requirements (DCR) compliant solar cells and 2.9 GW of solar modules between April 2025 and December 2025.

This module production included 2.4 GW of DCR compliant modules and 500 MW of Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) modules.

TP Solar operates a major 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, which uses advanced TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies to produce ALMM and DCR certified modules.

In November last year, TPREL commissioned the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation’s landmark solar power project at Karnisar Bhatiyan, Bikaner in the state of Rajasthan.
