The first trailer for Spider-Man: A Whole New Day is finally here, and it looks like Marvel and Sony are about to put Peter Parker through a different kind of existential crisis.

Even if no one is present Brand new dayThe trailer for knows who Peter (Tom Holland) is or that he is the one saving people as Spider-Man, he still has vivid memories of the past when he was still close to MJ Watson (Zendaya) and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon). Peter seems to have made peace with his “new” life as a secret crime fighter, taking on bad guys and other New York vigilantes like the Punisher (Jon Bernthal). But with all memory of him erased, Peter’s life is lonely and it seems his feelings are having an impact on his powers.

Although the trailer doesn’t reveal exactly what kind of enemies Brand new day will present, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) suggests that Peter’s DNA could mutate in unexpected ways. Shots of Pete waking up in cocoon webs and screaming in pain as his spider sense goes into overdrive make the movie feel like the movie. could taken from storylines in Marvel comics centered around him going through strange transformations. But the trailer’s explicit mention of the mutation (and the fact that it doesn’t feature Sadie Sink’s currently unnamed character at all) could be a sign that Brand new day will involve Marvel’s X-Men characters in some way when it hits theaters on July 31.
