But with rumors that Willis could land a $25 or $30 million per year contract, people are taking notice.
One of those people is Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner. And Warner thinks the potential cost is “crazy” given what is known so far about Willis.
“Took a break from draft prep to dive into the #MalikWillis gang for the last couple of years, given he’s one of the hottest names as we head into free agency!” Warner wrote on

On the one hand, Warner is right.
Willis struggled with the Titans and only found his way with the Packers while occasionally filling in for Jordan Love. There’s not a huge sample size here.
On the other hand, it’s not fair for Willis to say he’s evaluated solely on his basic failures. Given his talent as a runner, Willis needs to be looked at as a whole. Whoever signs him will do so to make him a dual threat, not just a dropback passer.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how Warner feels. Several teams are in need of a QB, and Willis is clearly the best option in free agency. If a bidding war starts, he’s going to end up with a hell of a salary.

Maybe it’s crazy. But it’s also the way this offseason is set up, whether Warner likes it or not.
Willis will simply have to prove himself, wherever he goes, to make Warner a believer.
