The KATSEYE x Gap Denim Ad Is Already Making History

Gap did not reinvent the wheel with their latest denim advertisement, but their best Denim campaign with Katseye could not have arrived at a better time.
On August 19, Gap unveiled its fall Denim collection by dressing the Hit Girl group in a series of Denim inspired by Y2K seeks one of their emblematic dance advertisements – which date back to the 90s – more in -depth in the nostalgia of the millennium with a soundtrack of “Milkshake” in Kelis. And that already makes history as the most viral announcement of the brand.
You have Megan Skientiel, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Yoonchae Jouing, Sophia LaForsea and Manon Bannerman killing their Choreo Sharp Signature in a series of washes and back cuts, which led to a fun and joyful advertisement with a group of various women who can dance.
It is very likely that the announcement would have always become viral without recent debate on the much more controversial campaign of American Eagles with Sydney Sweeney, but the various – although it is not particularly inclusive – certainly strikes stronger in the middle of the speech.
In case you live under a rock, AE has triggered alarm ringtone by pressing a Sydney Sydney with blond hair and blue eyes to define genetics with the slogan “Sydney Sweeney has excellent jeans”. Although the game on words has not raised so much eyebrows if advertising had a range of models celebrating their own unique characteristics, the backlash – and the backlash of the backlash – was fast and durable.
On the other hand, many viewers estimated that Katseye’s Gap Collab was a perfect sheet, even if it was certainly in preparation long before the controversy. Others simply celebrated the announcement for showing the products in a “brilliant” way.
“Katseye is the perfect group for that,” said a spectator on Youtube, receiving more than 11,000 likes. “The girls are diverse, and each has their own unique style. They not only show its own range of talents. They show the range of jeans: baggy, skirt, bass increase, high rise, etc. Genius! “
