The Legion Go S with SteamOS is $200 off, cheaper than a Steam Deck OLED

SteamOS is better than Windows 11. At least if you want to play games on a handheld, you’re looking for performance and efficiency, and you can do without some anti-cheat games that still only work on Windows. This is probably why people were eagerly waiting for Legion Go S to run SteamOS out of the box. Today, you can get one for just $449.99 (that’s $200 off the base price).
This is the SteamOS version of the Legion Go S, coming with a Ryzen Z2 GB processor, 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. And I think it’s worth serious consideration if you’re in the mood for a Steam Deck. While it’s still $50 more than Valve’s Steam Deck base model, it uses a larger 8-inch screen with a better resolution of 1920×1200. It’s also faster, at 120Hz (and with a very slight increase in CPU power), and comes with double the storage, a bigger battery, and improved Wi-Fi 6E.
With all of these improvements, I’d say the Legion Go S competes more directly with the $550 Steam Deck OLED, a slight design refresh with a slightly larger screen and better battery life. And with this deal, it’s $100 less. Although the Legion Go S doesn’t have OLED, I’d say its faster, larger, higher-resolution screen makes for a pretty balanced comparison. This is a good deal if you’ve been waiting for a good deal on a handheld.
Best Buy is also offering discounts on other models of the Legion Go S, with the more powerful Ryzen Z1 Extreme version of this SteamOS edition priced at $650. Oddly, Windows versions aren’t discounted… but since these models were poorly reviewed, I doubt anyone will be upset.
