Priceless: Trump Has a Little Fun Teasing Macron in Davos
President Donald Trump lobbies in the interest of national security, and he’s not always diplomatic when he sees what he considers stupidity.
Part of the reason is that our allies sometimes take actions that are counterproductive to their security and our interests.
In 2018, Trump chastised the Germans for continuing to source Russian oil. Why are we spending our money to protect you from the Russians, Trump said bluntly, when you are helping them and endangering yourself energy-wise through this relationship? He was right, of course.
I wrote about the incredibly stupid decision the UK is about to make regarding the Chagos Islands, where we share a vitally important military base with them. Not only is the UK currently considering ceding territory to another island, Mauritius (so much the worse for Chagossian self-determination), but it is also going to pay Mauritius money to be able to rent our own base. Oh, and Mauritius is under heavy Chinese influence. One of the most important roles of our military base in Diego Garcia is to help control China. So how is this going to work once they decide not to honor our lease?

So Trump has to deal with people who are not looking out for their own interests, but this failure also harms us and our own national security.
Trump was in Davos on Wednesday to talk with Europeans. As our sister site Twitchy observed, French President Emmanuel Macron made reckless comments about wanting more Chinese investment in Europe.

Why would you encourage this and put yourself at risk? It’s the German oil story again, but this time it’s China.
Trump highlighted some of this by talking about European reliance on reckless energy moves, like windmills purchased from China.

Windmills all over Europe, everywhere, and they are LOSERS. One thing I learned: the more wind turbines a country has, the more money it loses… CHINA manufactures almost all windmills, and yet I haven’t found any wind farms in China!
But he made his most important point: why self-immolate yourself with these bad choices and move closer to the CCP?
But he wasn’t done yet, as he publicly reprimanded Macron, saying he had changed the issue of tariffs, with a little persuasion.

It was humorous.
He also had a bit of fun with Macron about wearing his sunglasses indoors. That’s the big question at Davos: why was he trying to hide with his glasses?

The official story was that he had a burst blood vessel in his eye, but, of course, people were speculating about something else.
Trump was in full Trump mode, having fun with them, but pushing them to get things done.
