The Masters 2026: day one golf updates from Augusta National – live | The Masters

Key events
Four long and beautiful days await us. No need to run out there first thing, let’s have breakfast on the porch. Here’s what our man at Augusta, Andy Bull, chose. Iced tea and one of the famous egg salad sandwiches. It will be $3.50 please. Have a nice day now.
Preamble
Welcome, dear patrons, to the 90th edition of the Masters Tournament. And with Rory McIlroy finally having his hands on his Holy Grail, as the man himself wondered: what is there left for us to talk about now?
Well, how about… Can world number one Scottie Scheffler, supposedly in crisis with just one Tour victory this year (!), pull through in time to land a third green jacket? Will Jon Rahm or Bryson DeChambeau score one for LIV Golf? Can Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Åberg or Justin Rose, so often present or nearby at Augusta National, take the final step? Will Cameron Young repeat Rory’s feat last year by following up victory in the Players with success here? Would Tommy Fleetwood be the most popular winner? Or is it Bob MacIntyre? Oh, and what prize does Rory become the fourth man, after Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods, to successfully defend his title? And all that?
Everything will come out in the wash over the next four days. But first, some administrators and a reminder that candidates are guests and should be treated with courtesy and respect. While applause and positive reactions to good play are encouraged, unsolicited or consistent calls from the gallery are prohibited. Running is considered unacceptable behavior. Prohibited items include cell phones, pagers, electronic devices, tablets, any device with recording and/or transmitting capability, flags, banners, signs, ladders, periscopes, and weapons of any kind (regardless of permit). Pimento cheese sandwiches are $1.50 and iced tea is two dollars. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is the favorite, all the starts are below, and it’s the famous CBS theme on a looooong loop to get you in the mood. Here we go! The fever of the masters is real; Won’t someone call Dr. Golf?
