Families still looking for a spacious three-row SUV with solid efficiency and a reasonable price have a refreshed option in the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It has been updated for the new model year as part of a mid-cycle refresh, building on the current generation launched in 2022.

Mitsubishi set the starting price at $43,245, $2,800 more than last year. Even with this increase, the increase seems quite modest considering the updates and rising costs associated with production and pricing, especially since it’s built in Japan.

For reference, the gas-only 2026 Outlander starts at $29,995, up $350 from the previous year.

The 2026 Outlander PHEV carries over most of the updates already made to the gas model, so it looks a bit more refined inside and out. You get additional sound insulation, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and some changes to the suspension and steering, as well as updated front-end styling and new wheel designs that accentuate the look.

Where things get more interesting is the plugin configuration itself. Mitsubishi added a larger 22.7 kilowatt-hour battery along with improved cooling and thermal management, helping to increase the electric-only range to a claimed 45 miles and increase efficiency to 73 MPGe. This is a notable improvement over last year’s ratings, making it more competitive in the PHEV field.

The updated Outlander PHEV now makes a combined 297 horsepower, up from 248 in the 2025 model. We don’t have an official zero-to-60 time yet, but the latest version was rated at 7.8 seconds – and real-world testing has often found it a little quicker than that.

Under the hood, the setup is familiar: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder working with electric motors front and rear for all-wheel drive. The regular gasoline Outlander sticks to a 1.5-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid system making 174 horsepower.

This update also allows the Mitsubishi to stand out from the Nissan Rogue PHEV, which is based on the older version of the Outlander and generally costs more.

The starting price of $43,245 applies to the base ES trim of the 2026 Outlander PHEV. Mitsubishi will also offer SE and SEL trims, as well as a new Black Edition.

The Black Edition starts with the well-equipped SEL and adds a darker look, including black wheels, black exterior trim, and, in some markets, an available black roof. It’s more about style than substance, since there are no real performance improvements.

Full pricing and feature details will be released closer to launch in early May. Meanwhile, the gas-only 2026 Outlander is already open for orders.
