The next round of M5 Macs is reportedly ‘ready to go’

Multiple reports are pointing to 2026 as a big year for Mac releases, and we’ve entered the fourth full week of January with nothing to show for it so far. But the floodgates could soon open. In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that “we’re going to see things kick off here in the not too distant future.”

Gurman called the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Studio and a new display “ready to use,” but didn’t get more specific. Gurman previously announced that these products would be released in early 2026, which is generally seen as the first quarter of the year.

On Wednesday, January 28, Apple will launch its new Creator Studio, a software bundle of its professional apps (Final Cut Pro, Logic, Pro, Pixelmator Pro and more) for $12.99/£12.99 per month or $129/£128 per year. To commemorate this release, the company is hosting an invitation-only Apple Experience event from January 27-29, and I speculated that the release of Creator Studio and the event seem like a good time for Apple to unveil the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros.

Could Apple also launch the M5 MacBook Air, M5 Max Mac Studio and the new display at the event? The last two MacBook Air models were released in March, so a January release seems early. Same for Mac Studio. But hey, if they’re ready, why wait?

Gurman also reported that the M6 ​​MacBook Pro – the laptop expected to be the one to commemorate the MacBook Pro’s 20th anniversary – will “potentially arrive sooner than expected.” Previous reports indicated that the M6 ​​laptop could arrive in early 2027, but now it looks like October is on the cards. Since the M3, Apple has offered the MacBook Pro on an October or November release schedule, although only the base M5 model arrived last fall.
