The Only Rep Born in Cuba Has a Powerful Warning About ‘Marxists’ Like Mamdani Holding Power in US – RedState

Zohran Mamdani begins to illustrate the old adage: “A cheetah doesn’t change its spots.”
The self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist Mayor-elect of New York City has previously made statements that have even caused some Democrats, like the Obama administration’s former green energy czar and current CNN host and commentator Van Jones, to wonder how much of a 180 he has done since the results were announced on Election Day on November 4.

There were more troubling aspects of Mamdani’s victory speech
And it’s not like Democratic leaders don’t know what Mamdani is, as we wrote just days before this year’s election, with Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) denouncing his party’s extremists as the face of its future — and mincing no words about the endgame of socialism wherever it’s been implemented. My colleague Nick Arama wrote of Senator Fetterman:
“We all know how socialism works,” he warned. It’s a short and powerful statement. He doesn’t need to elaborate. Because he’s right. We know it. And we don’t want to go there.
Fetterman also chastised Democrats for keeping the government shut down: “That’s wrong. We’re harming the very people we’re fighting for. We won’t get anything done for them if we continue to keep our government shut down.”
Need even more proof this week? I have selected two for you, readers.
First, according to reports, the New York chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is pressuring Mamdani to implement a list of “demands” now that he has gained access to Gracie Mansion, including – among other worrying elements of the radical left – the state government’s adoption of anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS). Worryingly, as RedState’s Ward Clark wrote, this is not an idle idea, since Zohran Mamdani has openly supported the anti-Semitic divestment movement in the past.

Here is the second. Former mayor of Miami-Dade and now Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL-28) isn’t staying silent about what his family saw as survivors of a brutal communist regime – and he issues a powerful warning about “communists and Marxists” like Mamdani who try to deceive people into adhering to what amounts to Marxism – whatever they call it politically.
As Gimenez wrote in a post sharing a video on his X account:
I am the only member of Congress born in #Cuba.
My family was forced to leave their home after the communists took power. I know extremists when I see them.
Mamdani is a Marxist and we must fight even harder to stop this marginal democratic experiment for America!

– Representative Carlos A. Gimenez (@RepCarlos) November 6, 2025
“I didn’t speak a word of English when I came here, I was seven years old, and the reason I’m here is because my parents brought me here in search of freedom,” he said. “Freedom from communism, freedom from a Marxist regime. So I can tell you that I recognize a communist and a Marxist when I see one.”
“They can call themselves socialists, they can call themselves democratic socialists, but make no mistake: Mamdani in New York is a Marxist,” he said.
Rep. Gimenez explained that what bothers him is that soon-to-be Mayor Mamdani claims to be “proud” of who he is – and then fails to proclaim his obvious identity as a Marxist. But the congressman says he knows the obvious reason:
He couldn’t do it, and he can’t, because he knew he wouldn’t be elected.
Here’s someone we should listen to. We must be on guard and warn those who might ignore this deceptive ploy by the left. The perils of Marxism, as our late happy warrior Andrew Breitbart repeatedly warned, are not to be taken lightly. Fortunately, a far-left radical in this vein was not elected mayor of another major American city, Minneapolis, on Tuesday.
🚨 Cuban exiles tell the governor @RonDeSantis that Mamdani looks like what Fidel Castro promised in the late 1950s.

Finally, this user of X is perhaps right about the stakes of this ideological battle:

Editor’s note: The Schumer ruling is here. Rather than putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and radical Democrats forced a government shutdown on health care for illegal immigrants. They own that.
