Kohler’s new shower reuses dirty water to get you clean

Kohler claims its new Anthem EvoCycle smart shower system can provide “up to 80% water savings” without using flow or pressure limiting showerheads. Instead, the system relies on a tank in the shower base that collects waste water and passes it through a filtration system before returning it through the shower head. Pricing starts at $7,500, or $5,625 with discounts, but you’ll need to purchase the fixtures and the $825 water tank base separately.
The Anthem EvoCycle’s recirculation system starts with a “standard mode” where only fresh water is dispensed via a handshower sprayer and collected in the tank. Switching to “cycle mode” mixes a half gallon of this fresh water with dirty used water which is sent through a closed loop filtration system before being pumped to the shower head. The system not only reduces water consumption, but it can also potentially reduce energy consumption by using the water heater less.
The Anthem EvoCycle will need access to power for the pump as well as its digital controller that connects to your smart home and a mobile app for remote operation. You’ll just need to make sure your bathroom can accommodate its pump system, which requires a 4.5-inch-deep hole in the floor.
