Observations catch galaxy cluster in the process of merging

Astronomers used the DEIMOS multi-object spectrograph at Keck Observatory to observe a nearby galaxy cluster designated RXC J0032.1+1808. As a result, they found that the cluster undergoes a major merger event. The discovery was presented in a research paper published Dec. 16 on the preprint server arXiv.
