Mamdani Marks Oct. 7 With 1 Sentence Mourning Hamas Victims, Three Paragraphs Attacking Israel

Zohran Mamdani, Democratic candidate for mayor of New Yorkcastigated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for launching “a genocidal war” in a Tuesday Statement reflection on the anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023.
Mamdani, a self-described socialist, briefly condemned the “horrific war crime” perpetrated by Hamas in a statement posted on X. After criticizing the Israeli government in the statement, Mamdani added that the U.S. government “was complicit in all of this. “Two years ago today, Hamas committed a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 others,” Mamdani wrote in the statement. “I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of all the hostages still held and for all the families whose lives have been torn apart by these atrocities. »
“The day after that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: a death toll that now exceeds well over 67,000; the Israeli army bombing homes, hospitals and schools and reducing them to rubble,” Mamdani continued. “Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself is no longer expressed. I mourn these lives and pray for the families who have been broken. Our government has been complicit in all of this.”

Mamdani further wrote that “the occupation and apartheid must end”. He added that “peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes,” also calling on the U.S. government to “hold those responsible to account.”
“These last two years have demonstrated the worst of humanity,” wrote the Democratic mayoral candidate. “We must respond by setting an example of what is best: a relentless pursuit of our highest ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights. »
Mamdani’s campaign did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
Fabien Levy, deputy mayor in charge of communications for current New York Mayor Eric Adams, blasted Mamdani’s statement in a message published Tuesday on X.
“Just to be clear, this is not a statement about October 7th,” Levy wrote in the social media post. ““It’s a statement that shows how Zohran does not believe in Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state and is more critical of our own government than a designated terrorist organization.”
Additionally, New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik called Mamdani’s statement “abhorrent” in an X-post Tuesday afternoon.
Mamdani’s comments come after he was repeatedly criticized for his anti-Israel stance. He also already failed to directly condemn the controversial phrase “globalizing the Intifada”, which is widely seen as a call for violence against Jews.
