The US plans to begin breeding billions of flies to fight a pest. Here is how it will work
The US government is preparing to raise billions of flies and deposit them from Mexico and even South Texas aircraft. It is a large part of the government’s plans to protect the United States from the new world fly. The pest generates larvae eaten flesh that could devastate the American beef industry, decimate fauna and even kill domestic animals. Strange science worked decades ago to largely eliminate the fly of the United States, it involves reproducing male flies and sterilizing them. Once released, they mate with wild females and the population of the fly drops. The United States hopes to have an operational fly factory in southern Mexico by July 2026.
