The Voice Nigeria Contestant Dies After Snake Attack in Her Sleep
Ifunanya Nwangene, a rising star in the The Voice Nigeria in 2021, sadly passed away. She was bitten by a snake while resting in her apartment. And now, her loved ones are paying tribute to the incredible life she lived, while mourning the future Ifunanya tragically lost.

Ifunanya’s version of Rihanna’s hit song, “Take a Bow,” was so impressive that she got two chair turns during season 3. Then, after her stint on The Voice Nigeria, Ifunanya landed her next role as a soprano singer with the Amemuso Choir based in Abuja, Nigeria. Sadly, the choir’s music director, Sam C. Ezugwu, confirmed his “sudden” death in a statement on Facebook.
As detailed in their official statement, “A neighbor tried to help [Ifunanya]but his car failed to start despite several attempts. Ifunanya then ran about 500 meters to the estate gate, got on a motorbike and drove to Divine Health Hospital, the closest hospital to her residence in Lugbe, Abuja. But “Unfortunately, the hospital did not have antivenom and referred her to the FMC. »
When the director arrived at the hospital with Paschal, Ifunanya’s closest friend, doctors were already caring for her. She had difficulty breathing, had been placed on oxygen and was unable to speak.
They continued: “One of the doctors confirmed that Ifunanya had arrived at the emergency room alone and explained what had happened. She allegedly told them that she had seen a gray snake which had bitten her.” But unfortunately, “the hospital had exhausted its reserves” of neostigmine, an essential drug to combat the venom present in his bite. Friends found this medicine at the nearby Skylark Pharmacy, but before it could get into the hands of Ifunanya’s doctor, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Subsequently, a medium-sized cobra was found in Ifunanya’s room. So did another smaller snake near his doormat, as well as a third snake in a nearby enclosure. But it was the cobra that caused this “deadly bite”.
