On MS NOW’s “The Briefing” on Tuesday, host Jen Psaki claimed that former National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent “is not qualified for the job” and “has a history of associating with far-right figures and peddling debunked January 6 conspiracies.” But his departure is “also a sign that Trump is not telling the truth about the reason for this war.”

Psaki said: “Joe Kent was not some sort of career bureaucrat with a long history of intelligence work, nor really a person with any experience in any intelligence work. He was a twice-failed MAGA congressional candidate who had a history of associating with far-right figures and peddling debunked January 6 conspiracies. He was a loyal member of what you might call the Tucker Carlson wing of the movement. MAGA. So loyal that he allegedly ordered an analyst to write an intelligence assessment on the relationship between Venezuela and the Tren de Aragua to better align with the president’s whims.

She added: “Look, the most striking thing to me about Joe Kent’s resignation is not that he wasn’t qualified for the job, we knew that, and that applies to many Trump appointees, but it’s another real sign of the huge fissures within Trump’s party over the war in Iran. It’s also a sign that Trump is not telling the truth about why this war is going on.”
