The world’s black rhino numbers have increased but there’s bad news for others

The number of black rhinos in the process of critical has increased slightly, but there are bad news for other rhino species, according to a global count published Thursday by the international Rhino Foundation.
He said that the number of black rhinos has increased from 6,195 to 6,788 in the latest estimates. White rhinos had however decreased by 15,942 to 15,752 since the last count in 2021. Black and white rhinos are only found in nature in Africa.
The number of rhinos with a larger horn, found in northern India and Nepal, increased slightly from 4,014 to 4,075.
But Javan’s rhinos have decreased from about 76 to only 50, depending on the foundation, and this was entirely due to poaching. There remains only one population of Javan Rhinoceros – in a national park on the Indonesian island of Java.
The population of Sumatran rhinoceros amounts to only 34 to 47 animals, almost the same as previous estimates.
The world’s population for all rhinos is around 26,700.
The International Rhino Foundation says that it draws its figures from the enumerations by groups of specialized rhinos at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, the Global Authority on Threatened Species. He does not count rhinos in zoos, only those in nature or in national parks.
The Rhino Foundation said there were new worrying trends in South Africa, which has more rhinos than everywhere else. There, the average number of rhinos in individual populations was less than what environmentalists recommend maintaining a viable population.

He also said that a new rhino’s horror traffic road emerged between South Africa and Mongolia, and Qatar became a growing center for horns traffic. The poaching of rhinos is still a major problem in South Africa and elsewhere to feed the illegal market with rhinoceros horn products in certain parts of Asia. South Africa loses between 400 and 500 rhinos per year for poaching.
He often seeks new ways to dissuade poachers and a group of scientists launched a project last week to inject radioactive materials into the horror horns. Scientists say it is harmless to animals, but can detect horns by border authorities when they are smuggled.
