If you have a particular AI tool that you tend to try first when you have an artificial intelligence task on the deck, you are not alone. According to a new survey, 91% of people who use AI have a favorite tool that they are trying first, whether Chatgpt, Gemini, Alex or something else.

A Menlo Ventures survey of 5,000 adults has found that this so-called “dynamic default tool” means that most people using AI have chosen a general AI tool that they will first try for each work, even if it is not necessarily the best tool for work.

In the report, Chatgpt is the AI assistant who is at the top of the default tools, with 28% of respondents who choose it first. It is followed by the Gemini of Google at 23%, Meta Ai and Alexa of Amazon, both at 18%, and Siri d’Apple at 16%. Other tools such as Claude, Grok and Perplexity collectively represent 33%.

Part of this, says Menlo Ventures, is a “first engine advantage”, with tools like chatgpt having built a suite by being the first to offer chatbot and image generation features. But, warns the company, “this position is not guaranteed”, with challengers that quickly moved.

“The consumer market for [large language models] is always emerging and far from being saturated, “says the report,” leaving room for product innovation to move the market share over time “.

According to Menlo Ventures, some of the most common ways that people use these AI tools include the composition of emails and other writing lists, the search for interest subjects and the management of tasks.

Overall, 61% of Americans have used AI in the last six months and almost 1 in 5, 19%, depend on daily, said the report.
