These Canadian rocks may be the oldest on Earth
Scientists have identified what could be the oldest rocks in the Earth of rocky training in Canada. The Greenstone Nuvvuactuq belt in Quebec has been known for its old rocks for a long time, but researchers do not agree on exactly their age. Samples of a new site place the rocks at around 4.16 billion years, in the first period in the history of the earth. Ancient rocks are difficult to find, but they give scientists a rare window on the appearance of early land and even the way life has started. The new research was published Thursday in the journal Science.
