‘They Only Cared About Raw Political Power’—Manchin Blisters Obama, Biden, Schumer and Co. in New Book – RedState
“Because of what I knew – and what I had seen from the first hand – I wanted the Republicans to win the majority of the Senate in 2024.”
These are the words of the former Senator of Virginie-Western Joe Manchin, a longtime democrat who went to independent in ’24, in his new book which will be published Tuesday entitled “Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense”.
He accused Biden and Schumer of having used intimidation tactics to try to connect to pull the country increasingly on the left and to ensure the rule a single Democratic group:
He recalled this vote [on ending the filibuster] In his book and the pressure he felt by Schumer and the Democrats of the Senate to comply with this and other key votes during the presidency of Biden.
Manchin accused Schumer of wanting a vote he “could disseminate on the radical left to prove his loyalty” and declared that the head of the majority then sensitive did not really believe that getting rid of the filibuster was the right thing to do, but rather to fulfill his “only priority” to maintain control of the Senate …
“I thought it was the only hope of preserving the Senate as an institution. I really thought that, if in power, the Republicans would support the Flibustier, the last railing preventing the total partisan rule.”
The Virginian-Western accused the Democrats of showing his true thirst for power by trying to build the filibusier: they were simply hyper-partisan operators who cared more to bow to the extremist on the left than to do what was good for the country. “They had no interest in protecting the role of the Senate as a deliberative organ,” he wrote, “they only cared about raw political power.”

He added that the act of “I am a guy so kind of the former president Biden hid the fact that he is in fact a vicious supporter. The president of the time became villain when Manchin expressed his concerns concerning the “American rescue plan” of 2021 (blasphemy alert):

It looks like an absorbent reading, and Manchin takes a difficult line against his former comrades. However, it should be noted that he fell back on a big fight – the American rescue plan of $ 1.9 billion, and voted decisive to adopt the measure after opposing it earlier. He said he regrets the move.
He also voted for the ridiculously entitled 2022 “Inflation Reduction Act”, really just a Green New Deal boondoggy, which was undoubtedly an even more expensive error for America. These votes cannot be forgotten.
That being said, after this book, I think it is sure to guess that Barack, Chuck and Ole Joe will not send Christmas cards to Manchin this year.
