This amazing HBO Max feature helps me discover what’s actually worth watching
As a frequent HBO Max user, I love how easy, even effortless, it is to explore and discover all the content its library has to offer. One of my favorite features is the streamer’s unique Discover Our Collections category, which contains much more than just random collections of content. The service also offers insight into entertaining experiences and insider information.
From nominated and award-winning films, series and actors to cultural voices, studio productions, blockbuster hits and more, HBO Max’s Discover Our Collections category is rich, inclusive and constantly evolving. Every second you spend exploring it is definitely worth it. Let’s see why.
What are HBO Max collections?
In their list of available categories, HBO Max has a division called Discover Our Collections, which offers an incredible catalog of curated and varied content.
Curious to know what’s new on the platform? There is a collection that will tell you. Unconditional for Batman, Superman, The Black KnightOr Rick and Morty franchises? HBO Max has you covered. From Big Bang Theory, FriendsAnd Sex and the city from collections to collections of Spanish, female, LGBTQ+ and black voices, we’re talking about a plethora of very cutting-edge entertainment already sorted and waiting for you. There is even an entire collection dedicated to American Sign Language. The A24 movie studio also has its own collection of titles in one place, as do franchises like Mortal Combat, The ConjuringAnd Final destination.
HBO original documentary series Hard knocks is there, Middle Earth is there, Harry Potter and his friends are there, Westeros is there, and even Godzilla. Whether you’re looking for collections tailored to each season or critically acclaimed titles and collections from nominees and winners, you’ll find all kinds of hidden gems. These collections don’t just include movies and TV shows, however. They also include interviews with the cast and crew, as well as behind-the-scenes explorations of characters, critical moments, full seasons, specific episodes, main events, and much more.
How to access HBO Max collections
Open your internet browser and navigate to the HBO Max home page, where you will first need to log in to your account. Once you’re there, scroll down, almost to the bottom of the page, past the Top 10 Movies Today category, past the Brand Spotlight category, past the HBO Original Series and boom. Here it is: the Discover our collections category. Once there, the rest is up to you: browse, explore, and enjoy this hearty gumbo mix of entertainment.
Accessibility varies by device. If you’re an Apple TV user like me, simply open the HBO Max app, log in, go to the main menu, and select Categories. From there, scroll down until you see Explore Our Collections. Regardless of your device, if you don’t see the main menu, simply scroll down the home page until you find the Collections category.
Discover the favorites of the HBO Max collection
Some of my favorite collections include, of course, Collection of rewards and awardsTHE The world of Westeros, The Sopranos collectionTHE Middle Earth CollectionAnd What’s new. THE Collection of rewards and awards features all new Golden Globe nominees, as well as those who already have a gold trophy on the shelf, and an assortment of critically acclaimed movie marathons, Academy Award winners, Emmy-winning past performances, Peabody Award winners, 2025 Emmy Award winners, film festival favorites, GLAAD Awards and NAACP Image Awards nominees.
While the Middle Earth Collection presents the entire Lord of the Rings And Hobbit franchises, including expanded film editions and all animated adaptations, the The World of Westeros Collection is much more expansive. He understands the Game of Thrones And Dragon House original series and, once broadcast, will include the new adaptation of the George RR Martin series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
In addition to each episode of each series, you’ll also go behind the scenes and explore entire seasons, specific episodes, and key events. Additionally, you will enter every episode of Dragon House and get detailed introductions to different characters and their worlds. It’s exciting, I know. There is also access to the official Dragon House podcast, and Game of Thrones Fans can also relive the show’s essential episodes and best battles while seeing what the cast remembers from their time on set.
As one of the best detective series of all time, The Sopranos collection takes you back into this world. Check out the Emmy-nominated and most-watched episodes, then find out why Tony’s Capos are what they are. Want some gabagool? You’re lucky. Are you wondering why marriage is so complicated? You will find out. You will also discover each episode warning you why not play with the Soprano women. Finally, you’ll get the best episodes of many characters and learn about the show’s biggest hits, hits and bumps of all time.
I also like the Always the Season Collectionwhich features everything from literal content from this time of year to the best content of the year, the most memorable moments of the year, TV Hall of Famers and hidden gems, classic comfortable watch options and much more. THE What’s new is also essential because it tells you what’s been recently added, what new episodes were released this week, and what content is coming out soon – pretty much everything you need or want to know, in one place.
Launched in July 2024, HBO Max’s Discover Our Collections category saw a big expansion in 2025 with the addition of more inclusive and diverse options, so there’s plenty to keep you busy and laughs guaranteed. The platform shows no signs of slowing down either, as in mid-December the streamer rolled out in-app curated channels featuring themed playlists of binge-worthy titles. If you’re looking to explore, HBO Max is the perfect place to do it.
