Highpoint Technologies is preparing to unveil the 7638D rocket to FMS2025, a PCIE Gen5 X16 additional card with one -stop shop which aims to combine external GPU support and high capacity SSD storage in a compact factor.
This card is intended to be used in environments where space constraints are essential and calculation and storage performance are necessary.
Highpoint indicates that the 7638D rocket supports the simultaneous use of a high performance external GPU and up to 16 SSD NVME of business quality, allowing the consolidation of the components are generally propagated on several slot machines.
Fusion of GPU support and SSD capacity in a single PCIE location
The design seems to be targeted on the IA inference, high performance IT (HPC) and the workloads for the production of supports, where system density and thermal considerations could restrict expansion options.
The 7638D rocket uses an external CDFP interface to accommodate a Gen5 GPU at full height, double or triple slot, supporting up to 370 mm, including options like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, which was launched earlier this year.
Internally, the card is equipped with two MCIO ports, allowing users to connect up to 16 SSD NVME using standard wiring or a basket bottom.
When associated with SSD Kioxia LC9, currently among the largest SSDs on the market at 245.66 to each, this configuration can theoretically provide up to 4pb of total storage.
Although this configuration is probably limited by thermal problems, power compatibility power and constraints in certain deployments, architecture allows high density integration where such challenges can be met.
How to do
- Install the 7638D rocket in a PCIe Gen5 x16 slit on a supported motherboard
- Connect a compatible Gen5 X16 GPU (for example, RTX 5090) via the CDFP port
- Attach up to 16 SSD NVME using Dual MCIO cables or via a Gen5 compatible back basket
- Make sure that power delivery and cooling are suitable for both the GPU and the SSD load
- Use firmware tools to manage track distribution, power cycle and devices monitoring
- Monitor the state of the system using on -board LED indicators or command lines
In addition to the 7638D, Highpoint will present its wider portfolio of the series of rockets at FMS2025.
This includes NVME Gen5 and Gen4 switches and raid adapters capable of hosting up to 32 SSDs or 8 accelerators per location.
The Rocketstor 6500 series, another part of this range, supports almost 1 pb of external storage from a single PCIE location.
The Highpoint infrastructure supports a variety of NVME factors, including M.2, U.2 / U.3, E1.S, E3.S and ESDFF.
It also includes real-time diagnostic features, firmware adjustment and integration with OEM platforms.
