Undetonated World War II bomb forces 6,000 people to evacuate in Hong Kong

Hong Kong police evacuated 6,000 people from a residential and commercial district densely populated on Friday evening after construction workers found an unteashed bomb in the Second World War, authorities announced.
The explosive of 1000 pounds was discovered in the district of the island of Hong Kong at Quarry Bay after it was probably abandoned by the forces of the American army eight decades ago during its efforts to release the city from the Japanese occupation, according to a police statement.
The unit of elimination of the explosive ordinances of the department considers that the bomb, found between 16 and 94, rue Pan Hoi, “is still in good condition”, which has made it possible to “emergency evacuation” of 18 residential and commercial buildings, the police said.
The Quarry Bay roads were closed while the bomb team was preparing for the move of the M65 explosive.
Despite the high density of the population of Hong Kong and the passage of eight decades, the discovery of the explosives of the Second World War is still not uncommon in the former British colony.
A similar link of 1,000 pounds was found in the animated district Wan Chai in 2018.
Construction workers came across an explosive of 2,000 pounds in the high -level district of Happy Valley in 2014.
