Christmas Eve Gaming Crushed as Steam Goes Offline

Your Christmas Eve gaming session might not go as planned. Online gaming center Steam fell on Wednesday. Around 1:30 p.m. PT, the Steam store page was accessible again, so services appeared to be coming back online.
The Steam outage appears to have started mid-afternoon ET, according to Downdetector, which monitors outages on the site. (Disclosure: Downdetector is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)
A Steam representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
As of midday PT as of Wednesday, Steam’s official X and Bluesky accounts had not posted anything about the outage.
Players have certainly noticed. “Go down with steam, go down with steam!!!” » wrote one Bluesky user.
Others commented on the poor timing just as players were enjoying their time off or receiving gaming gifts. “‘You received a gift on Steam!’ oh cool, “Steam is down”, oh cool,” another Bluesky user wrote.
