Three homeless people found dead on NYC streets as deep freeze grips city


Three people were found dead Saturday morning in the streets of Manhattan and Brooklyn in freezing temperatures, police said.
A 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene when police found his body outside around 7:45 a.m. near Third Avenue and E. 35th Street in Murray Hill.
About two hours later, the body of a 64-year-old woman was found around 9:25 a.m. in front of a home near Remsen Avenue and Glenwood Road. in Canarsie. An unidentified man was also found dead around the same time near Warren and Smith streets. in Cobble Hill.
The cause of death of the three individuals will be determined by the city medical examiner.
The three people were homeless and showed no signs of trauma, according to PIX 11.
Police have indicated no criminal involvement and no arrests have been made.
Temperatures plunged to 10 degrees Saturday morning — with wind chills making it feel more like 8 degrees below zero — as New Yorkers braced for a mind-numbing arctic blast that would sweep through the city Sunday morning.
Once the snow arrives – with forecasts calling for up to a foot – the white stuff should stick around for a while as temperatures are expected to stay below freezing throughout the week.
A “Code Blue” cold weather alert was in effect as New York City emergency management said outreach teams would help connect homeless people to shelters amid the dangerous freeze.
“No homeless person seeking shelter in New York City during a Code Blue will be denied access. New Yorkers who see people they believe to be homeless and in need should contact 311 by phone or mobile app and request outreach assistance,” NYCEM said in a statement on X.
