The market for games open to independent ITCH.IO suddenly hits the contents for adults from its navigation and research pages, warning that some games will be permanently from the platform. In a blog article Thursday, Itch.io Creator Leaf Corcoran said that the update was due to the concerns that the website payment processors “on the nature of certain content” organized on the platform, after a similar examination against Steam.

“Our ability to treat payments is essential for each creator on our platform,” said Corcoran. “To ensure that we can continue to work and provide a market for all developers, we must prioritize our relationship with our payment partners and take immediate measures to compliance.”

While Ach.io hosts a variety of game content, adult and pornographic titles are often among the top-sales of the platform. Content creators who organize their work on ITCH.IO received no warning before the decision. “We know that it is not ideal, and we apologize for the brutality of this change,” said Corcoran. It is not clear if customers are currently able to access visual games and novels that they had paid before update. We contacted itch.io for clarification.

ITCH.IO has not yet provided complete advice to creators who describe the content that will be authorized on the platform after this modification, but notes that the creators will be required to confirm that their NSFW content complies with all the rules established by the payment processors of their account. It is, of course, provided that this does not cause a tumblr-esque mass exodus of users who can now look for an alternative service to host, sell and buy NSFW games.

“We are currently carrying out a complete audit of the content to ensure that we can meet the requirements of our payment processors,” said Corcoran. “The pages will remain uninstated when we finish our exam. Once this review is completed, we will present new compliance measures. ”
