President Donald Trump announced that the United States produces “more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined” during his address to the nation Wednesday night on the war in Iran.

“Thanks to our ‘Drill Baby Drill’ program, America has enough gas,” President Trump said. “Under my leadership, we are the largest producer of oil and gas on the planet – not even to mention the millions of barrels we receive from Venezuela. »

“As a result of the Trump administration’s policies, we produce more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined,” the president added. “There is no country like ours in the world and we are in excellent shape for the future. »

Trump added that “the United States imports almost no oil” through the Strait of Hormuz, “and will not take any in the future.”

“We don’t need it. We didn’t need it,” the president said. “We have defeated and completely decimated Iran. They are decimated, both militarily and economically.”

“And the countries of the world that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz must ensure this passage,” Trump added. “They should take the initiative to protect the oil they so desperately depend on. »

President Trump then addressed “countries that cannot get fuel, many of whom have refused to get involved in decapitating Iran,” and offered two suggestions.

“Number one: Buy oil from the United States of America,” Trump said. “We have a lot of them.”

“And second,” the president continued, “gather some belated courage” and “go to the strait and take it.”

President Trump then reiterated, “Iran has essentially been decimated,” explaining, “The hardest part is done, so this should be easy.” »

“No matter what, when this conflict is over, the strait will naturally open,” Trump added. “They’ll want to be able to sell oil because that’s all they have to try to rebuild. Flow will resume and gas prices will fall quickly.”

Addressing Americans who have seen a “recent rise” in U.S. gas prices, Trump explained: “This short-term increase is entirely the result of the Iranian regime launching deranged terrorist attacks against commercial oil tankers in neighboring countries that have nothing to do with the conflict. »

“This is proof that Iran can never be trusted with nuclear weapons,” Trump said.
