Great Dane’s Reaction to Owner Taking a Bath Leaves Internet in Stitches

A Great Dane’s hilarious first brush with a bathtub has left TikTok viewers in awe of the gentle giant’s curiosity.
In the clip shared to @sirbrucee, the large dog named Bruce towers over the tub, which is filled with water as his owner soaks inside. Text layered over the video reads: “My 1.5-year-old Great Dane had never seen a bathtub until today, when we moved to our new home.”
Bruce appears mesmerized as he stares at both the tub and the shower, unsure of what to make of the strange new sight, racking up more than 455,000 views.
Bruce’s curiosity quickly gets the better of him—he dips a paw into the water, followed by his nose, before deciding the bathtub is best treated as a giant water bowl. He takes a cheeky slurp while his owner remains perfectly still, letting the dog explore.
Grooming and Bathing Great Danes
The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that Great Danes don’t require frequent baths—only occasional washes, unless they have gotten into something particularly messy.
Their short, smooth coats shed lightly most of the year, but given the breed’s size, even minimal shedding can add up.
Owners are encouraged to brush Great Danes with a medium-bristle brush, rubber grooming mitt, or hound glove weekly to keep hair under control.
During shedding season—once or twice annually—hair loss can increase dramatically, making daily brushing ideal.
Nail care is also critical, as overly long nails can cause discomfort and even affect a dog’s ability to walk and run properly.
Dr. Preston Turano, a veterinarian and spokesperson for AKC Pet Insurance, previously told Newsweek: “There is no need to wash a dog weekly unless directed by your veterinarian for a specific skin condition. But washing weekly runs the risk of causing dry skin. It also may damage the coat based on the breed.”

“Mine would have jumped in. He LOVES water. And he loves to stick his head into it to blow bubbles,” one user wrote. The owner replied: “Mine too, I just don’t think he understood how to actually get his body in!”
Another viewer posted: “He is saying, ‘Why in the world are you sitting in my water dish?'”
A third person added: “Give him a couple of days and he’ll be a mermaid. He is adorable.”
