BRUSSELS (AP) – The European Union High Level Court ruled on Friday that the decisions of the world football leader can be challenged outside of Switzerland, opening a system that currently links athletes, officials and clubs to accept verdicts.

A declaration from the European Court of Justice said that the courts of the 27 EU member states “should be able to carry out an in -depth examination of these consistency prices with the fundamental rules of the EU law”.

The CJCE’s decision means that the national EU courts should be able to review the verdicts of the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) based in Switzerland. Switzerland is not a member of the European Union.

The decision could end a legal fight of a decade of the Belgian Soccer Club RFC Seraing and the Maltese investment fund Dean Sports.

They opposed the rules of FIFA prohibiting third property from the registration and transfer rights of a player, and in 2015, asked a Commercial Court of Brussels to re -examine whether these rules had broken the law of the EU.
