Orban Falls – TPM – Talking Points Memo

The defeat of Viktor Orban is a very big deal. He is not only a central symbol of the global authoritarian movement. His regime was also the laboratory, the rallying point and a source of financing, a place from which to operate. Importantly, he was defeated by a predominantly center-right party, led by a defector from Orban’s party. But at least on the surface, it is a center-right party that plans to operate within the structures of civic democracy. I wanted to point out that, perhaps despite himself, Orban, as evil as he is, managed to illustrate once again to what extent Donald Trump was a weak and fraudulent man. He managed to do what Trump could never do, admit defeat.

This is an important and consequential defeat for the world Team Strongman.
