Tractor-trailer cab found after Delaware bridge crash, driver presumed dead

A semi-trailer taxi that crossed the side of the Delaware commemorative bridge was located in the waters of the Delaware river and its driver is now presumed dead.
Friday, the vehicle was heading south on the I-295 in Delaware when it suddenly crossed three traffic lanes around 3:40 am, according to the Delaware River and Bay Authority. He then struck a concrete barrier and plunged into the river.
“The taxi was located in about 20 feet of water,” the spokesman for the DRBA said on Friday, James Salmon.
Saturday morning, they had not yet recovered the unidentified or determined driver if someone else was inside the taxi at the time of the accident.
The rescue teams and the diving teams of several agencies, including the American Coast Guard, helped research Friday. The efforts to recover the cabin and anyone can be inside were suspended around 4:30 p.m. due to tidal and water conditions in the region.
Recovery efforts were to resume on Saturday and will continue as the tide allows, officials said. DRBA engineers will work with Re Pierson to use a barge and a crane in order to draw the river cabin.
The accident early in the morning hampered traffic on the deck, which has two four -lane worms and connects Delaware and New Jersey. The left lane was closed for the current investigation, and the right -for -right route has already been blocked for the planned construction, said the Memorial Bridge Du Delaware account on X.
DRBA was then able to open the right track, freeing a little traffic. All tracks have since reopened.
The cause of the accident remains under study.
