Trae Young managed to get himself ejected before even taking the field for his new team.

Young, who is expected to make his Wizards debut Thursday night against the Utah Jazz, was ejected for coming off the bench during Washington’s 123-118 home loss to the Houston Rockets.

The four-time All-Star, acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in early January, took the field Monday to protest a non-call against Tari Eason in the third quarter and was given a technical foul and ejection. Eason was also ejected.

Young later joked about the incident on social media. “Don’t expect me to get kicked out of DC too often😂..but I definitely bring that energy and competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!” he wrote in an article on X.

Young is nursing injuries to his MCL and quad and hasn’t played since late December. Young announced on social media earlier Monday that he was targeting Thursday for his return.

The Wizards have been one of the worst teams in the NBA over the last decade and have only reached the playoffs once in the last seven seasons. They hope the recent arrivals of Young, who has averaged 25.2 points per game in his career, and 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis will revive their fortunes. Davis has been out since January with a hand injury.
