This is a line that we have never crossed before, but we have now crossed. I mean, we have already investigated the John Bolton investigation. We have those with Letitia James and Comey, and there is no reason to think that there will be no others and perhaps already be others. You have Ed Martin, the weaponry tsar at the Doj, who flows, wanting to investigate everyone a little flattest and wins the favor of the White House. So it’s in progress, it’s the point, and we have to adjust the way we cover it to reflect the new reality.

Sargent: Well, just apply your frame for a second to this audio that we have just heard in which Trump has essentially absolved his own side of political violence. History should be that Donald Trump explicitly declares that his own supporters will be above the law as long as he controls the legal apparatus, right?

Kurtz: Yes, I heard that as a kind of mixture, we are more difficult than them, and therefore if it will be a fight in the streets, we know who will win. But also, as you say, an absorption element, as he did with the rioters of January 6, for example, as he did with the seditious conspirators, right? He has already taken this road. This is not new. We have already seen it apply the law in this way against – or in favor when they have committed political violence. I mean, I think this is the definition – really the decisive thing of the second term Trump, that he did this immediately after taking office earlier this year.
