Transcript: Trump Explodes over Cratering Polls as GOP Losses Worsen

This is in the last two weeks. Trump said of Somalia: “If you look at Somalia, they’re taking over Minnesota. We’re not taking their people anymore.” Okay, it’s… there’s nothing in there about social fraud, about crime. It’s just, “We don’t like this country or any of its people.” » Another: a reporter told him that Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, had said he was proud to have a large Somali community – a Somali community. Trump says, “I wouldn’t be proud.” » He said he was a fool – about Frey. “I wouldn’t be proud to have the largest Somali community.” This is a quote from Donald Trump. “The Somalis, the Somalis should leave here. They destroyed our country.”
Imagine, Greg, if a politician in this country said that about Jews, okay? It’s absolutely the same type. And one more thing, he said – at his rally in Pennsylvania a few days ago – about Somali immigrants in Minnesota: “They should get them out of here. They’re not working. 91 percent unemployment” – that’s a false statistic – “People from Somalia hate our country. People.” It is therefore a crude ethnic venom. And Trump says it, and his crowds agree. I would like to believe, Greg, that there will be a backlash in this country about this, but I haven’t seen it yet.
Sergeant: Well, maybe not yet, but what I would like to point out is maybe what looks a bit like a split-screen moment, right? On the one hand, I think it’s absolutely true, as you point out, that generally speaking, a lot of Americans just aren’t really tuned in to the explicit ethnic persecution, the explicitly fascist nature of it. In other words, many Americans probably hear this stuff and mostly say: It’s just that Trump is crazy Trump, you know, and they don’t sort of say, Holy shit, this is ethnic persecution. It’s fascism.
