Transcript: Trump Press Sec’s Fury at Media Erupts as Putin Mess Grows

And Trump, even at the start of the war, Played that it was informed and genius to attack Ukraine like that. Real quotes, Savvy and Genius were his reaction. Much of this is also his vision of the world: that the forts should be able to push the weakest. He and a large part of his staff bathe in online right propaganda that the Ukrainians – as the West are weak and awake and too gay to fight. And that has nothing to do with war, how it really works. It is a cultural nonsense. BUt they are really taken in many of that. And so his vision of the world – a lot of their vision of the world – does not need to win Russia, to succeed to validate it. And the type of real response to Russia which would really make them stop the strong and sustained military effort – which would make them realize either that their war effort would collapse or make them realize that it was futile and unlikely to succeed, was not worth the effort, And that they should simply take what they can get – it is the only real path to peace. And Trump can’t do that because he – I don’t even think he would be capable of it. But even if he was, he doesn’t want it. He doesn’t really try. I think at the very least that it is sure to say, on the basis of all his actions, he does not want to see Putin lose, In fact lose. And so he cannot do what Ukrainians and Europeans need.
Sargent: Well, it brings me to the question I wanted to close. Just to go overall, wHe continued to be invited to love Trump as a large world historic peacemaker. But at the end of the day, you put his finger there: Trump is preparing for a world in which the alliance of Western liberal democracies is weaker and autocracies are stronger. It is a world in which almost general conflicts and invasions like Putin are rewarded. Can you talk about where we are going here and what could this world look like?
Grossman: Of course. I think it is without exaggeration one of the greatest things that have happened in modern history. Essentially, the World Order of the Second World War on and especially since the end of the Cold War was based on the basis of American power. America is the champion of democracy, is the world’s police officer, is the head of the liberal world order, whatever the euphemism you wanted to use for the American hegemony. And Trump abdicated this role. By the Americans elitinating it once, many other countries could say, Oh, it’s a stroke of luck, But starting again after seeing all the crime, after seeing the first mandate in office told the world that the United States is not reliable.
