‘We Need More Time’ for Costly Climate Change Law That’s Raising Utility Rates, Says NY Gov. Hochul – RedState

Facts are a harsh mistress. And no one seems more incapable of understanding the facts than Democrats in general, and New York’s Democratic governor, Kathy Hochul, in particular. In her latest embarrassing mistake, the climate law she supported and the Empire State’s ever-onerous taxes are driving all the wealthy, those who start and run businesses and create jobs, out of the state. Today, because of green policies, utility rates are increasing, which means that much of the rest of New York’s residents are also turning to the exit.
Governor Hochul now wants to delay full implementation of these crazy climate laws, hoping that someone will decide to stay put – or that some of those who already fled to Florida, Texas or Tennessee might return. Yeah, good luck with that. As our sister site Hot Air wrote earlier on Saturday:
Kathy Hochul is up for reelection this year and has a very big problem: For all the talk about an “affordable” program, every policy Democrats like to promote increases costs, reduces quality of life, and drives people out of blue states.
And one of the worst problems it faces is skyrocketing energy bills and the prospect of those prices rising even higher and faster in the coming years as climate deadlines rapidly approach.

It’s a little late to understand that now, governor.

It always happens like this, doesn’t it? Democratic politicians, responding to the party’s wind of climate disapproval, are promising and implementing an insane “climate” plan that ends, predictably, in rising energy costs, with concomitant increases in the prices of everything. Then these same politicians complain that they need more time.
Facts wait for no man, Governor Hochul, as you may have already noticed.
Gov. Kathy Hochul decided Friday to amend and delay implementation of New York State’s landmark 2019 climate law, which calls for a gradual decrease in greenhouse gas emissions within certain time frames.
These proposed adjustments include delaying the publication of regulations intended to implement the law – already two years late – until 2030 and changing the way certain emissions are measured.
“We need more time,” Ms. Hochul wrote in an editorial published Friday morning in The Empire Report, a news site that covers state politics. “So much has changed dramatically since the climate law was enacted, requiring common sense adjustments. »
If there was common sense in all this, then New York would never have engaged in Democratic-sponsored economic suicide.
It’s always tempting in cases like this to point fingers and mock voters in general. We shouldn’t. It’s kind of amusing to see an increasingly clueless politician like Kathy Hochul forced to dramatically backtrack, but there are plenty of people in New York who didn’t vote for these stupid policies and yet are suffering because of them, and not everyone can afford to just pack up and move. They shouldn’t have to either. Home is home, right? Many people love their home, their community, and their state, and should not be forced to think about packing up and leaving because their politicians are illiterate in economics.
It’s sad what’s happening to the Empire State. But maybe with all the new price hikes on utility bills, some of those influential voters we always hear so much about will take a hard look at the Republican candidates in the next round.
